What does honesty have to do with anxiety

Honesty and anxiety

We have less to be anxious if we are more honest. Being more honest does not eliminate all your anxiety, but it would eliminate one source of your anxiety.

Anxiety is like a river; many streams run into it. One of the streams that run into the river of anxiety is dishonesty.

Every lie we tell adds one more burden to our backs. Not just one day, but every day from that day on, you wonder when this lie will be exposed. When we lie next time, we must be sure we do not contradict our last lie.

Lying or impersonating someone, taking up another person’s identity, claiming a title, credit, or honor you do not own, falsifying credentials, denying something you have done or promising something you know you would not carry out, fabricating an alibi, or bearing false witness—all these acts of dishonesty carry the risk of being exposed and punished. Anticipating negative consequences is a stream that runs into the river of anxiety.

Holding a secret that you believe you should disclose to the police or the potential victim is an act of dishonesty toward yourself, your conscience, and/or authority. It not only stirs up a feeling of guilt, but it also adds to our anxiety. We become anxious because we fear and anticipate the legal or moral consequences. Dead bed confession is a common way to unburden this heavy load of secrets and avoid the consequences beyond this life span.

You may wonder why your friend who is much more dishonest than you and has no anxiety.

I say: don’t envy. It is because his core has been rotten.

How to deal with anxiety?

Taking an anti-anxiety pill will help you bury every feeling of guilt and stop anticipating the consequences. It is just like removing an annoying fire alarm in your kitchen. But if you choose therapy, you will learn the habit of not burning food.
